Overview

Reliable & Versatile Access!

On the challenge of cost-effective broadband access in the last mile, INTRACOM TELECOM responds with the IBAS™ Multi Service Access Node (MSAN), the company's top-of-the-line copper access platform.

Engineered to optimally address the requirements of Next Generation (NG) networks, IBAS™ leverages the investment in the existing copper infrastructure to deliver a full range of profitable and innovative triple-play services.

Taking full advantage of the DSL technologies and Ethernet transmission backbone, IBAS™ concurrently provides multiple broadband services (high-speed Internet, video broadcasting) and narrowband services (lifeline voice), all from the same chassis.

Service providers are enabled to surpass the expectations of their residential and business customers, minimize TCO and gain a competitive advantage in the fierce broadband arena.

Benefits
  • Single platform for Central Office, FTTB / FTTC and Outdoor Plant installations.
  • Simultaneous termination of legacy voice / VoIP / ADSL services for fast ROI.
  • CapEx optimized – high modularity, leading capacity and variable configurations.
  • Smooth migration from legacy to next generation to IMS networks (V5.2 / H.248 Megaco / SIP).
Highlights

The most important characteristics of iBAS™ are given below:

  • Next Generation multi-service access node providing easy migration to the IMS world.
  • Universal solution for Central Office (CO) and remote cabinet deployments.
  • Future-proof design with full triple-play capabilities.
  • Concurrent provision of high-speed broadband (ADSL2/2+) and narrowband (POTS) subscriber interfaces from the same chassis.
  • Enhanced Impulse Noise Protection (INP) for better quality of voice, data and video service.
  • High capacity: 1,152 subscriber interfaces from a single 12RU chassis (single depth).
  • Forwarding of broadband subscriber traffic to the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) through multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.
  • Provision of narrowband voice services through SIP / H.248 signaling over Ethernet.
  • Two chassis options to fit medium and high capacity needs.
Applications

Respecting the operators' OpEx & OpEx limitations, iBAS™ leverages the existing copper asset to deliver a full range of profitable services to the demanding end users. The typical iBAS™applications are described below:

Next Generation (NG) Services Provisioning

  • Narrowband POTS services (SIP / IMS and/or H.248).
  • Broadband DSL services.

FTTx Realization in High-density Areas

Figure 2 depicts iBAS™ implementing a typical Fiber To The Curb (FTTC) / Building (FTTB) scenario for cost-effective network modernization. The unmatched flexibility and reliability of iBAS™allows the delivery of legacy voice and bundled broadband (video, VoIP and high-speed data) to remote locations of high subscriber density.

Technical Description

iBAS MCISiBAS™ meets the stringent Next Generation (NG) requirements regarding capacity and triple-play service provisioning, while fully supports VoIP services (SIP / IMS, H.248), video multicasting, QoS and security assurance.

iBAS™ provides speeds up to 8 Gbit/s toward the aggregation side, through the utilization of multiple Gigabit interfaces (optical or electrical). When only legacy TDM infrastructure is available at the Central Office, a single iBAS™ chassis can consolidate up to 1,008 POTS subscriber lines into sixteen E1 / V5.x links.

The schematic below illustrates how iBAS™ concentrates and processes traffic from the served subscribers and forwards it uplink through Ethernet and optionally E1 connections.

The iBASTM High Capacity Chassis (12RU, 18 slots)

  • Big variety of subscriber interfaces through service blades of high port density:
    • Broadband ADSL2/2+ subscriber interfaces through 72-port service blades.
    • Voice and other legacy (POTS) narrowband subscriber interfaces through 72-port service blades.
  • Industry-leading capacity from a single-depth ETSI/19" rack (2200 mm x 600 mm x 300 mm):
    • 3,456 x ADSL2/2+.
    • 3,024 x POTS.
    • 1,008 x combo ADSL2/2+ & POTS (including splitters).
  • Multi-protocol networking uplink interfaces:
    • Up to eight Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interfaces toward the MAN.
    • Spanning Tree Protocol, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) support.
  • Sophisticated traffic handling protocol implementation:
    • High performance Ethernet traffic processing with IEEE 802.1d /p /q /ad bridging (VLAN / VLAN stacking), IGMP snooping and multicasting functionality.
    • Integrated SIP Access Gateway functionality support for smooth migration to the IMS world.
    • Integrated Access Gateway functionality support according to H.248 (Megaco) gateway control protocol.
  • Enhanced Impulse Noise Protection (INP) of 32 KB / channel for increased correction capability, especially useful for video services.
  • Local GUI and remote (SNMP) or CLI management capabilities through inband or outband paths.
