INTRACOM TELECOM starts a recycling procedure for electronic equipment

INTRACOM TELECOM, in cooperation with POLYECO S.A., starts the pilot recycling of electronic equipment (netMod devices, fixed telephone devices and PC towers) in October 2006. The pilot programme is implemented in the scope of the project "Integrated Product Policy in the Telecommunication Sector" (www.ipp-tel.gr), which is integrated in the framework of the LIFE - Environment project (http://europa.eu.int/comm/environment/life/home.htm).
ipptel project logo The project refers to the eco-design and end-of-life management of telecommunication devices. Apart from INTRACOM TELECOM and POLYECO S.A., EPTA Ltd., the National Technical University of Athens, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, POIOTIKI S.A. and the Union of Hellenic Chambers of Commerce are also participating in the project.

The disassembly of the devices and the fragmentation of the materials will take place at the premises of POLYECO S.A. in Aspropyrgos, Attiki, Greece, by specially trained personnel. During the procedure of disassembling and shredding, certain basic parameters will be recorded for the evaluation of the devices redesign, based on environmental criteria, and the examination of the economic dimension of their recycling, such as duration of disassembly, weights and volumes.
